Trip Overview
Numbur Cheese Circuit Trek is an off-the-beaten-track that offers magnificent mt views of Langtang, Jugal Himal, Gaurishankar, Bigphera Go Nup (Pathibarra), Numbur Chuli, and Everest Range. Walking through the deep river gorges, glacial lakes, terraced rice fields, subtropical forests, and Sherpa villages, this trek is an enlightening one. To honor the name of the Mt. Numbur Chuli (6959m) this trek route is called Numbur Himal Cheese Circuit Trekking which is suitable for the people who are seeking virgin trekking areas in Nepal. One of Nepal’s first cheese factories established in 1957 along with many others en route are the sights which give the trekkers an idea of the local cottage industry. During fall one can admire the rhododendrons blossom in profusion. Eagles, musk deer as well as Himalayan Tahr, a species of goat antelope, are common sights whereas catching a glimpse of the elusive snow leopard is also not impossible for the lucky one! During the wet season, the mountain meadows are very green and lush with flowers and grasses. Shivalaya, the old trade route from Jiri, is the gateway for the Numbur Cheese Circuit. Panchpokhari pass (4605m) and Gyajo La (Thulo Lapcha) pass at 4880m are the most adventurous passes of this trek whereas valleys of Khimti and Likhu are the best example of biodiversity showing the different vegetation ranging from temperate to alpine. The famous Thodung Monastery is the landmark of this trekking !!!
