Trip Overview

Bardia National Park is located in Nepal’s western plainlands, east of the Karnali River, covering an area of 968 sq. km. It is the largest and most undisturbed protected area in the Terai. It is the home to many endangered species including tiger, wild elephant, rhinoceros, swamp deer, blackbuck, Gharial crocodile, marsh mugger crocodile, and Gagnetic dolphin, and one of the last known herds of wild Elephants in South Asia. More than 30 different mammals, over 250 species of birds, and many snakes, lizards, and fish have been recorded in the park’s forest, grassland, and river habitats. This park is famous for elephant safari or jungle drive. Muger and Gharial crocodiles share the water with gigantic dolphins as well as several other species of reptiles, amphibians, insects, and butterflies and there is always the rare chance that you can see the elusive freshwater Gagnetic dolphins. The varied geographical factors together with the thick cover of Sal, savannah forests, and grasslands render this region ideal as a wild animal habitat.
